WELCOME TO BRACE 2024! 

BRACE (Brawijaya Cultural Engagement) is an eleven-day cultural immersion activities hosted by Universitas Brawijaya. This program is open to all students of non-Indonesian universities. The program will take place from 4 October 2024 to 14 October 2024 (including arrival and departure days). The program site is in Malang City, Province of Jawa Timur (East Java), Indonesia. This year’s BRACE takes the theme of:

Elevate Your Experience, Embrace Diversity, and Forge Lifelong Connections!

Programs

In 11 (eleven) days, participants will experience various multicultural immersion activities. The tentative schedule is as follows:

Day 1 (4 October 2024): Arrival and Welcoming Dinner

Welcome to Indonesia! We’ll pick you up from Surabaya or Malang airport and take you to your cozy guest house where you can settle in and rest. In the evening, join us for a special Welcoming Dinner hosted by the International Office. Meet fellow participants and staff, and enjoy a warm introduction to Indonesian hospitality.

Day 2: “Kampung Budaya” Festival 

Dive into the vibrant “Kampung Budaya” Festival, a multicultural carnival where you can enjoy a colorful costume parade and savor delicious food from various regions and countries. Feel free to join the parade by wearing your traditional costume and represent your culture!

Day 3: Exploring Malang

Experience the lively Car Free Day on the iconic Idjen Boulevard, followed by a leisurely stroll through the historical “Kampung Heritage” of Malang City.

Day 4: Language and Culture Exchange (Lunch Included)

Engage in Language Exchange Session where you can learn and practice Bahasa Indonesia with local students while sharing your own language. Make new friends and foster cultural understanding. Later, unleash your creativity in a Batik Creation Lesson, learning to design and color your own Batik patterns.

Day 5: World Music Museum

Visit the largest World Music Museum in Southeast Asia at Jatim Park 3, Batu City. Discover musical instruments from around the world and explore the rich history of Indonesian music.

Day 6: Educational Tour at UB Forest (Lunch Included)

On Day 6, participants will embark on an educational tour at UB Forest, starting with a hands-on coffee making workshop. You will learn the entire process of making Arjuna coffee, from roasting green beans to brewing a delicious cup. In the afternoon, you’ll explore the fascinating world of weather modification, learning about techniques like cloud seeding to influence weather patterns and enhance agricultural productivity. This day promises a blend of sensory delights and intellectual stimulation in a beautiful natural setting.

Day 7: Modern Farming Insights & Traditional Indonesian Cuisine Cooking Class (Lunch Included)

Discover innovative agricultural practices at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry’s Modern Farming System. Learn about sustainable farming techniques and their impact on the environment. Then, in the afternoon, we will get back to the campus site to join a cooking class of traditional Indonesian cuisine.

Day 8: Cultural Immersion (Lunch Included)

Immerse yourself in Javanese culture with a Gamelan playing and traditional dance lesson. Experience the rhythm and movements that define this beautiful cultural heritage.

Day 9: “Kampung Budaya” Festival Finale

Witness the grand finale of the “Kampung Budaya” Festival at UB. Enjoy top-notch performances of traditional fashion and dances by fellow students, along with other captivating cultural showcases.

Day 10: Sunrise at Mount Bromo

Embark on an unforgettable adventure to witness the breathtaking sunrise at the legendary Mount Bromo. Departing late in the evening on Day 9, this magical experience will be the highlight of your trip.

Day 11 (14 October 2024): Farewell

It’s time to say goodbye to Indonesia and head back to your home countries with a treasure trove of memories and new friendships.

Travel and Accommodation

Participants must arrange their own flights to either Juanda International Airport (Surabaya) or Abd. Saleh Airport (Malang). The committee will provide a pick-up transport from the two airports.

For your stay, the organizing committee recommends several accommodations near UB, all of which can be booked through online ticketing services such as Traveloka, Booking.com, and Agoda:

To participate in this program, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be an active student at any level in a non-Indonesian university.
  2. Register by submitting the following documents:
    • Close-up photo (formal or casual)
    • Scanned copy of your passport
    • Scanned copy of payment proof
